ARM Institute Announcement

Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Technology Project Call for Proposals Announced

(May 17, 2018, Pittsburgh, PA) Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) today issued a formal solicitation for a call for proposals for eight topic areas relative to advancing robotics technology. These topic areas are an extension of seven topic areas announced in October 2017, as well as a new topic area on software.  Detailed information about the project call can be found on the ARM Member Community and on the ARM public website at www.arminstitute.org/tech-project-call-may-2018

The eight topic areas are:

  1. Topic 1: Identifying and Packing Objects
  2. Topic 2: Unloading and Unpacking Objects
  3. Topic 3: Transport and Delivery through a Complex, Crowded Floor
  4. Topic 4: Inspection of Non-standard Materials
  5. Topic 5: Tracking and Traceability of Components
  6. Topic 6: Surface Treatments
  7. Topic 7: Manipulating Compliant Materials Topic
  8. Topic 8: Software Interoperability (new topic area)

The proposal submission procedure is a two-step process with the following anticipated schedule:

Step 1: Concept Paper Submission:  5:00 PM ET, Jun 20, 2018

Step 2: Full Proposal Submission (by invitation only):  5:00 PM ET, Aug 29, 2018

Project requirements are as follows:

  1. Proposed projects must develop within Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 4-7 and Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL) 4-7.
  2. Each project has a minimum of 1:1 cost sharing with deference to those with higher cost share.
  3. Projects must be industry-led and address an industry need.
  4. Projects must develop or integrate innovation.
  5. A typical project would be awarded $500K in federal funding over a one-year time period. Projects of $750K will be considered at 18 months with good justification. In addition, smaller project sizes and durations will be considered.

ARM may award up to $10M in federal funding for this proposal cycle. Note that only ARM active members can participate in project calls. Visit www.arminstitute.org/membership to learn about becoming a member.
